Hello Everyone,

 Welcome to Mrs. Powell’s 7^th Grade Science Class Website. This website is intended to help you keep up with what is going on in class. I will give you an outline of weekly assignments and post any up coming projects. Please remember to visit the site regularly and use it to contact me if you are going to be out of class.

 I am looking forward to an awesome school year I hope you are as well. We will be learning a lot of new material and doing many exciting activities this year. It will not always be easy but just remember to do your work and give me your best effort. If you do that, you will be successful in my class. Please understand that I am here to help you, so if you are having problems let me know. Below you will find a few suggestions on how to be successful this year.

 Homework Note

I do not always give written homework, but you need to review what we did in class on a daily basis. When I give written homework you need to complete it or it will affect your grade.

Make-Up Work

If you are absent, make sure you get your make-up work from me upon return. This is your responsibility do not wait until grades go out to start worrying about missed assignment.

Textbooks

I have a class set of books that are always on the tables so there is no need to bring your book to class. You will be assigned a textbook to keep at home or in your locker. You will be given a workbook, which you will need to bring to class daily.

BQ Note

BQ stands for bell question. Each day when you come in the classroom, the BQ will be on the board or in the basket. You are to copy the BQ and answer the questions. You will complete all the BQ for the week on the same sheet of paper and turn it in on Friday for a quiz grade. These weekly quiz grades can really helpor hurt your grade if you do not turn them in.

4/24- Students will choose a Science related book to read. Science fiction is fine. They can choose one of the books I have or one on their own.

If the students choose a book on their own it must be approved by me, it needs to be close to their reading level and it must be an AR book.

5/11-5/15- Read in Class and Write 5- Paragraph Essay

5/13- Awards Day

5/14- Students will be given a study guide for final exam

5/18- 5 paragraph Essay on your book is DUE. AR test must be taken by this date also.

5/19-5/20- Final Exams

Reading Project Notes:

Students will be given a grade for the 5-paragraph Essay (100points), AR Test grade (100 points), Daily grades for staying on task and being prepared (10 days X 10 points total of 100)

Wednesday- power point notes for chapter 4 section 1- HW review notes for quiz on Friday.

Thursday- Finish notes for Chapter 4.1, reinforcement activity, Chapter 4.1 WKBK

Friday- Review, Quiz on 4.1 notes, Start Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

Week 5 Second Semester

Monday- Mini Test Section 3.1 & 3.2, Word search, and Assigned Design a CELL project DUE 2/11/09

Tuesday- Start Chapter 3 section 3 Cell Organelles and Functions, Watch Simply Cells Video.

Wednesday- Power Point presentation on Cell organelles and Functions

Tuesday- Group discussion of 6 Characteristics of  Living things, 4 basic needs. Students will make a Key Term Fold and Define Key terms for Chapter 2 Section 1 & 2.

Wednesday- Review, Notes for Chapter 2 Section 1. Finish Key terms. Vocabulary Review Sheet.

Thursday- Review, Chapter 2 Section 2, Reinforcement Activity. Vocabulary Quiz Tomorrow on (14 Key terms from chapter 2)!!!

Friday-Review, Vocabulary Quiz, Notes for Chapter 2 Section 3.
